Since this is a new blog, I'd love to get to know my followers as they join (and even if your aren't a follower, I'd love feedback ;)
What were some of your favorite young adult books when you were a kid? How about as an adult?
When I was a kid my favorites were A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle (which by the way has a 50 year commemorative addtion out now), The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. Even then I loved magic and romance! I also really enjoyed the Hobbit- though I thought it needed some romance ;)
As an adult, I read the Harry Potter series and loved it. I'm also gonna just go ahead and say I liked the Twilight series too. A lot of literary people will grumble about that one, but hey, obviously somebody liked it... ;)
I liked Twilight too! I know that makes me a pariah among our writerly kind, but damn it those books had a certain, irresistable charm to them.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm a big fan of "Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld and "Acorss the Universe" by Beth Revis. There's also a really great, Twilight-like book called "Halo" by Alexandra Adornetto. I drove five hours to meet the author when she visited the US just because her book was so good.
When I was a kid, it was "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." It took me many, many years before I could accept the idea that there were other books worth reading.
I tended to read science fiction when I was young, but nothing that would probably be considered young adult. And I loved reading The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings in high school. It's probably what got me interested in fantasy in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAnd I absolutely loved the Harry Potter series - so much in fact, that I wrote a story based on that world.(still working on it, BTW) That's when I learned I loved writing fiction and it's why I joined the IWSG.
Glad to meet you.
